Do you feel like you’re the only one “stuck” in the city this Labor Day weekend?  Stop moping around!  There are so many cool things you can without having to battle holiday-weekend shore traffic.  There are a number of fun things to do this weekend.

For starters you can come hang with us on Friday night for our “Goodbye to Summer Sip & Shop Event”. The tickets are only $10 which gets you a glass of wine, a wine glass, and a lanyard.  Brulée Catering will be providing some good eats for you to munch on and, after you finish your first glass of wine, you can purchase more for just $5 a glass.  Oh, did I mention that you get to hang out with some seriously cool people?  Stop by and enjoy wine, food, shopping, and great company.  You won’t be disappointed.

Maybe you’re sticking around the city to head down to the Parkway for the Made In America Festival.  Why not hang out with 70,000+ of closest friends while listening to some great bands?  It’s an awesome time that puts a spotlight on our great city.  There will be some excellent food options, including some gourmet food trucks…and, it’s sponsored by Budweiser so I’m fairly certain you’ll have your pick of any number of adult beverages.

How about a barbecue this weekend?  Whether you’re hosting or a guest, we have some great recipes to share that you can make to share with your friends and family.  These are sure to be a hit among your family and friends.  You can start off with this fantastic sangria recipe, Summer Sangria.  For the main course, how about grilled chicken made with white wine?

Marinated Grilled Chicken with White Wine, Garlic & Lemon

Ingredients:
2 tablespoons parsley, finely chopped
2 tablespoons fresh oregano, chopped
¼ cup of dry white wine
¼ cup of olive oil
Juice and zest of 1 lemon
2 cloves of garlic, minced
½ teaspoon of sea salt
½ teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper
1 ¼ lbs of boneless, skinless chicken breasts (approximately 4 chicken breasts)

Directions:
Combine all ingredients, add the chicken breasts, and flip to coat well.  Cover and let marinate in the fridge for a minimum of 2 hours.

Put the chicken breasts on a greased grill (on medium-high heat), close the cover of the grill and cook for about 7 minutes.  Flip the chicken and keep cooking for about 5 minutes or until the chicken is done. *If you double the marinade, you can use the extra for basting while you’re grilling the chicken.

No good barbecue ends without a fantastic dessert.  Sure you could go with s’mores for the kids, but what about the adults?

Zinfandel Gelato

Ingredients:
750 ml Zinfandel (1 bottle)
4 or 5 star anise
1 tablespoon juniper berries
1 ½ cups milk
1 cup sugar

Directions:

Mix the Zinfandel and spices in a saucepan. Bring slowly to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until it has reduced to 1 cup. Pour the mixture into a container, cover, and refrigerate for several hours or overnight to let the spices permeate the wine.

Meanwhile, warm the milk and sugar in a separate saucepan, stirring constantly until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat, pour into a bowl, cover, and refrigerate several hours until very cold.

When ready to make the gelato, first strain the wine, and then combine it with the cold sweetened milk. Freeze the mixture in an ice cream machine according to the manufacturer’s instructions. For the best texture, serve right away. Yield is a little over a pint.

Whatever you do this weekend, have fun, stay safe, and enjoy!  Have a great Labor Day Weekend!
